Every now and then I'll do a rant about how the Education/Socio-economic/Political system is going down the tubes...It's always easier when it doesn't affect me because then I can stand on a soap box and pontificate..Feel cool about it then walk away...Kinda like being in a battle scene but not being part of it.

Sometimes life gets so surreal for me that it's like a "Wonder Years" episode where I'm narrating things around me but not so much personally affected.

Well that was then this is now...Let me explain:

1. I work in California

2. State is broke...Like that friend who always borrows money for pot but never pays back.

3. Wage cuts coming my way...Just the same as in many of the European Countries facing budget deficits.

I of course am sad about it...I'm not materialsitic but we all like a lil spending money in our pocket...Strippers need my dollar bills too...Oxycotin and platform whore shoes are NOT cheap.

Sooooo I'm doing what I like to do best...Prep...Downsize...Get rid of stuff I don't need or want...People think that loss of wages is a bad things but sometimes it's a wake up call.

When I was young, I still remember being quite poor and visiting family in a lower middle class area...Where kids played outside and the older folks would sit, watch political/sporting shows or play chess/dominoes as they listened to a boxing match or soccer match on the radio.

Basically you lived a simple life but it was sweet...Sometimes the less you have the better it seems because along with less things comes less resposibility and worries.

Of course there's a middle ground...I'm not talking live like the Spartans...More of a Japanese flavor to it...Have things but small and meaningful rather than many things that you never need/use or really want.

I still have about 2-3 months before this all kicks off but I've started to downsize everything in order that when it hits I'll just ride the wave on top.

I suggest we all start now even if you don't need to because trust me the last thing you need when you have bad economic news is to THEN start doing things about it.

Seems I do this every year anyway and EVERYTIME I have more stuff that I have no idea how I ended up getting it...Hmmmm well gym/diet/books and prepping it is...Fuck it I need the kick in the ass to get moving sometimes...I think we all do.

Well can't really complain...We're the 2nd-3rd highest paid and BEST trained guards in the country...I've seen the other supermaxes around the country and they're horrible...No training, no equipment, very few weapons, use of force policy doesn't allow you to get busy if you need to...Although be nice to live in Oregon or Utah...I'm a Cali boy and if the ship is going to sink I'd like to make my stand here.

Believe it or not, every other state in the union watches California as a predictor of the future for thier own state, at a governmental level, at a general economic level and for many other factors.
Did you know that the reason the US even has the EPA Environmental Protection Agency is because California pioneered it?
Have you thought about looking at other agencies to work for or other states?  Everyone's having the same basic issues economically but others are in better positions than your state.  How horrible would it be to take a position doing what you do in like, Nevada, somewhere around Vegas?

Holy crap! We have blog signatures?!?
