Quoting Wulfric:
In an attempt to stave off actual work, I figure I'll write one of these instead. If anything, maybe it'll help me get in the writing mode so I can finish the PC case review I'm SUPPOSED to be writing. I went to bed last night shortly after 1 a.m. I was awakened around 3 in the morning by the sounds of loud voices and blaring music. My roommate was throwing a party. So I quickly dressed and went out to see what was up. His reason: he didn't want to go out so he invited them all back to our place. All right. Under normal circumstances I probably would have been pi$$ed - I should've been pi$$ed, but for some reason, I didn't care. It's spring break, Saturday night, and I really have no plans other than sleeping in Sunday anyway. I rolled with it. I told him as long as we don't get noise complaints or it doesn't interfere with my work, and it's only on weekends, it's all good. Truth is, though, I think I needed it more than he did. He goes out every night, but I don't have a social life. For me, school IS my social life (I'm a grad student). My roommate brought this point up to me. He said "You have friends. Why don't you go out with them?" To which I replied, "I have friends, but I wouldn't call them friends to the extent they're willing to drive out here and pick my ass up." It just made me start thinking, what really constitutes a friend? My roommate has plenty of friends, as witnessed last night when they were willing to bring the party to him, rather than he go where they were. My friends won't do that unless there's usually some sort of payment involved for gas or food. I'm not being totally fair, because I do have one friend whom I think would go out of his way to help me out, but he recently has a new girlfriend so I see less of him lately. I can't fault him, though. His new girl is F'ing HOT!! It's the kind of situation that if he plays his cards right, they could be together a VERY long time. So I can't really blame him. Still, I spend all my time at school or engaged in the other side projects I have going on. Maybe having a roommate half my age is a blessing in disguise. The party might have been ill-timed, but in the end, I guess I needed it.
